Creative process for new music...

Hi All,

I’ve just got the news today that my first EP, “Out Of Mainstream”, has been approved for distribution!

I’m very happy about that, but it will still take between 7 to 14 days before it is available on the streaming websites…

So before this magical and mystery day happens, I’d like to share some thoughts with you on my creative process for building new tracks.

Most of the time, I start by creating a chord progression.

And very often, I use one or several chords of a track I’m learning to perform on the piano at the same time I’m working on a new track.

In the case of “In Your Eyes”, I used an Em9 to Dm9 chord progression which also used by Stevie Wonder on his song “As”, from his best album (in my opinion of course…) “Songs In The Key Of Life".

This is not a super fancy and innovative chord progression but it was giving the kind of groovy and happy feeling I was looking for the track “In Your Eyes”.

I used it as the main vamp of the track but added some other changes to give it a richer harmonic content.

As you will learn in other posts, this is one of my favorite process when it comes to create something new (and I’m not alone ;-)).

This is why I constantly learn to play new tunes in order to stimulate my own creativity!

So enough for today, I hope you found this interesting…

Peace Ya All!

Jérôme
