Musical influences

Hi All,

My first EP “Out of Mainstream” is now live! It has been somehow a long journey before this first release, so I feel good about it. However, I also feel a little bit overwhelmed because I honestly don’t know if it will reach listeners and if I will ever get some feedback on it.

As I mentioned in my introduction page, this is the challenge of the modern day musician, to cut through the noise, and it seems sometimes very difficult (at least to me…)!!!

But anyway, this is not today’s topic ;-)

For this post, I wanted to talk about my musical influences.

Though there are many (I will need surely need more than one blog post to cover all of them), I will start with one of the most important for me: this is the RH Factor, a band which was formed and led by Roy Hargrove, a famous American trumpeter, includes very good musicians like Pino Palladino, James Poyser, and features some of my favorite artists like D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Q-Tip or Renee Neufville (former Zhane lead singer and keyboard player)).

In their first album “Hardgroove” released in 2003, the RH Factor managed to mix together in a very beautiful way Jazz, Funk, Soul and Hip-hop and this has pretty much gave me some direction for my own musical endeavours.

The compositions are all well crafted so that I really enjoy listening to the album from the beginning to the end!

So if you don’t know this album, I highly recommend you to listen to it!

That´s all folks!

Peace ya All!!!

Jerome
