About Jimi Otis
Jimi Otis is a musical project, created by Jerome D. a French composer, keyboard and bass player, blending together some elements of Jazz, Funk, Soul and Hip-Hop to create a modern sound. Once upon a time on planet Earth, music was made by real musicians. Nowadays it may sound strange when almost everyone owning a laptop can get cheap music production software and hardware, put together 2 or 3 loops, play one or two notes on a mini keyboard, throw the result on the internet and get instant success (whether or not will it be a long lasting success is another story…). It is true that the craft of learning and playing a music instrument takes time and dedication, and it seems that nowadays, few people are willing to make the effort, most likely due to the various available distractions our modern digital world offers. But somewhere on planet Earth, there are still some people dedicating themselves to the art of musicianship. And Jerome Dupont, a French composer, producer, bass and keyboard player is definitely one them. In his particular case, it is even more remarkable since he started to teach himself playing keyboard as an adult. He then decided to mix his musical influences from great past and present Jazz and Soul artists like Herbie Hancock, The RH Factor, Roy Ayers, Patric Rushen, Snarky Puppy, D’Angelo or Maxwell to Hip-hop bands like The Roots, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul or The Pharcyde; adding to this sonic landscape a subtle use of electric rhythm and lead guitar reminding some of Pink Floyd’s work. He called this musical project Jimi Otis, as a reference to two of his favourite artists: Jimi Hendrix and Otis Redding. Now one thing is for sure: if you like simple, cheap and easy mainstream electronic music, then this music is not for you!
Some further words:
"Dear Guest: over the last 15 years, I’ve taught myself piano playing, composition, songwriting, sound engineering, mixing and mastering, mainly for my own pleasure, entertainment and personal development. I’m now willing to share my creations with you. The biggest challenge of the modern musician (and of artists in general) being to find an audience, I’ve decided to release new music for free on a regular basis. You would help me a lot if you would share this with other people, talk about it on social media and listen to it on Youtube or music streaming sites like Spotify, Pandora or Apple Music. I will also make myself available to exchange about anything you’d like to know about what I’m doing. Nuff’ said, I thank you very much for the time you will take to listen to my music, and I hope you will enjoy it! Looking forward to talking to you... "
